Things to do in Westport

Cyclists on The Great Western Greenway, 42km

There is so much to see and do in Westport and the surrounding area that you could never be bored or at a loose end.

For those of you who are interested in the culture and history of Westport there is no better place to start than the magnificent Westport House & Gardens, where 30 rooms are open to the public. The Clew Bay Heritage Centre right here on the Quay has a wealth of local knowledge and history and is a must see. Using Westport as your base you can explore the surrounding area where you have Turlough House Museum, one of the national museums of Ireland and Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens which is known as Ireland’s most romantic castle.

It is no secret that The West of Ireland has always appealed to walkers and cyclists and now with The Great Western Greenway it is more popular than ever. The Greenway runs from Westport right on through to Achill Island and visitors and locals alike can cycle or walk all or some of the way, perhaps stopping off in Newport or Mulranny to catch your breath, see the sights or take a stroll on the beach. The Greenway is an experience not to be missed.

Westport is known as the adventure capital of Ireland and you will not be disappointed by what is on offer. You can choose from zorbing, zipwiring, coasteering, rock climbing, snorkeling, archery, combat games, kayaking, horse riding, surfing and many more.

After such a busy, exciting, informative and relaxing day why not take a short walk from The Harbour Mill to one of the restaurants here on The Quay beside us where discounts are available to our guests.
